Difference in Adaptation[]

  • This episode is based on the second part of Chapter 06: after the last encounter between Lucia and Kaito before her 13th birthday ceremony, the scene moves to Gackto's palace, where he's pondering about Kaito, who he met in Chapter 05 as the Mermaid Princesses were fighting Maria.
  • While Gackto is petting the giant fish he'll later ride to break into the North Pacific Ocean Palace in both the manga and the anime, he's informed that a mermaid's ceremony is about to be celebrated.
  • The scene of Kaito visiting the Pearl Piari in search of Lucia is absent in the manga; same goes for the burned-down beach house, as the birthday party subplot is an anime-only addition.
  • In the anime Lucia is simply left saddened by Kaito's words, in the manga she's furious at him.
  • Nikora explains that the main part of the ceremony consists in a visit to Aqua Regina's shrine by the "Fountain of Promise": while both can be spotted briefly in the anime (during Lucia and Kaito's encounter and when she regains consciousness after being separated from him), they're never mentioned by name.
  • In the manga, this is the first and only appearance of Madame Taki: it's the power of her magic flute that gives Kaito his prince attire.
  • Gackto attacks the mermaids directly, instead of sending the Dark Lovers to search for them, as his song brings the whole palace to crumble.
  • Yuri dances to Gackto's Dark Rose Requiem alongside the other Dark Lovers, instead of playing the piano, in the manga.
  • Madame Taki's reaction to Gackto's song isn't featured in the manga.
  • In the manga it's Gackto the one to capture Lucia away from Kaito through a whirlwind, and not the Dark Lovers; he also acknowledges his previous encounter with Kaito, as he tries to protect Lucia.
  • Lucia faces Gackto alone with the new melody given to her by Aqua Regina, both the Dark Lovers and the other Mermaid Princesses aren't featured in this battle.
  • Instead of a fainted Kaito being awaken by Momo, in the manga he's simply looking for Lucia as he catches her singing and he's not teleported to the shore afterwards.
  • The manga ends with Kaito at the beach house giving away the chocolate received by his fans to a friend and, as Lucia approaches him to give him hers, he stops his friend from taking that one too, much to the joy of the girl.
