A Pearl Tear is the ultimate source of a Mermaid Princess' power. The Pearl Tears of the seven Princesses are what Gaito and his minions are after, because they possess the power to summon Aqua Regina. They're the pearls that the Mermaid Princesses keep in their Shell Lockets. Truthfully, the lockets hold no power whatsoever and it is actually the pearls that are powerful. Pearl Tears can be passed down from one generation to another, like Sara gives her pearl to Lucia to save it for Seira before dying.

Powers[]

A Pearl Tear allows the Mermaid Princess of its possession to transform into her Idol Form. In the very first episode of season 1, when Kaito throws his pendant to Lucia, her pearl suddenly turns into an E-pitch microphone for the first time.
A Mermaid Princess usually cannot sing well without a Pearl Tear. (Despite this, it has been shown that some mermaid princesses can still sing well without it, such as Sara)
It enables a Mermaid Princess to have her Coming of Age Ceremony, as it is connected to Aqua Regina.
A Pearl Tear has the power to heal someone, as Lucia's did when Kaito nearly drowned.
A Pearl Tear's shine can blind or harm a villain temporarily, just like how Caren's did in Episode 27, so that Lucia, Hanon, and Rina could escape the Black Beauty Sisters. Another example is Hanon, when Yuri tore Mitsuki's sheet music in Episode 9.
A Pear Tear can also glow or shine as a warning to other mermaid princesses close-by when one of their own is in distress or in danger. This happens quite often throughout the anime with the main trio.
Coco and Noel's pearls have been used by Sheshe and Mimi in Episode 49 for them to sing more powerfully. In the second season, they were granted power which let them sing just as powerfully without a pearl to empower them.

Shell Lockets[]

Shell Lockets are used by the mermaids to keep their pearls inside. They also serve as necklace pendants.

There appear to be two distinct types of locket, a winged version reserved for princesses including Sango and a version without for all other mermaids like Nikora and Meru.

In addition to an electronic pink shell locket toy known as the Aqua Pitch Compact, the latest merchandise shows that the MM 2022 BushiBoard Aqua Pitch Accessory Case resembles the Mermaid Princesses' Shell Lockets themselves as well as pendants for golden-chained necklaces and a pillow that is based on the pink shell locket. There is also one that is part of the Aqua Pitch Bracelet Accessory Set.
