Noel (ノエル Noeru) is one of the main supporting characters in the anime and manga Mermaid Melody.
History[]
Pichi Pichi Pitch[]
Noel and her younger twin sister Caren are twins, both born on either side of midnight between Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14 in 1986. However, they were born on opposite sides of the world, with Noel being born in the Arctic Ocean and Caren being born in the Antarctic Ocean. Noel lived a calm life until the day her kingdom was destroyed by Gaito and his minions. Noel escaped, leaving her kingdom behind. While escaping, Noel met the mermaid princess of the North Atlantic Ocean, Rina Toin, whose kingdom had also been destroyed. For a while, they traveled together, until Gaito and Yuri, caught up with them. Gaito tried to capture and trap both Noel and Rina, but Noel pushed Rina out of harms' way and sacrificed herself to Gaito, telling Rina to escape. For a long time after that, Noel was trapped in the depths of the ocean in Gaito's castle, locked away in a large glass tank along with Coco, the princess of the South Pacific Ocean. Her younger sister, Caren, went out to search for her sister after hearing of this.
After a time of searching, Lucia, Hanon, Rina, Caren and Hippo invaded Gaito's castle and freed her and Coco. After this, all the six mermaid princesses helped Sara find her old self again and together, they defeated Gaito.
Pure[]
After defeating Gaito, Noel returned to her kingdom with the mermaids of her palace to renovate it. Afterwards, she comes to Rina's castle to its renovation. She comes to the human world with Caren and Coco to enjoy their summer vacations. At last, she and all the 6 mermaid princesses invade Michel's base to save Michal and Seira. When everything ended, she came to participate in the last concert on Pearl Piari with everyone from the story.
Personality[]
Noel has a gentle, kind nature and is a bit shy. She is a close friend of Rina. She loves to read detective books, reflecting her analytical personality that she and Rina share. She seems to have great knowledge about different magical things and places. At times she can be a bit bold, such as when she clung to Nagisa in order to make Hanon jealous. Noel cares a lot about her friends, even going as far to sacrifice herself to keep them safe. Noel is also very supportive and encouraging, as shown when she was providing much of the support in a beach volleyball game and telling Lucia to smile when she was feeling down.
Appearance[]
Noel looks a lot like Caren. She has the same height as with the same hairstyle; however her hair is dark blue instead of purple and has opposite side bangs with dark blue eyes. Her birthmark also is on the other cheek. She occasionally wears glasses when reading. Early in the both the manga and the anime, Noel had a different hairstyle the right side of hair went over her face. When she makes her entrance in the second arc, she has a side fringe resembling Caren's, but on the opposite side.

Noel has three forms. Those are her human, mermaid and idol form.
Human Form[]

In Noel's Human Form, her eyes are slightly darker than other forms. Her hair is navy blue and wavy, with a right parted fringe. In the second season, Noel is shown wearing glasses at times.

Noel's Idol form
Her mermaid form follows the trend of all the other mermaid princesses, with a deep blue strapless seashell bra, two white colored pearl bracelets around her right wrist, a band of the same color around her upper arms, and two pearl bracelets around her tail. Her hair is in the same style as it is in human form, though it is far longer and her hair color becomes pale blue.
Idol Form[]
Noel's Super idol form
Her Idol form, her Indigo (Aiiro) Pearl Voice is a short strapless blue dress with purple ruffles on the one side. The ruffles are located above the knee with a light indigo trim on the top. She also has white gloves and high heel boots with pale blue pearls on the wrist and ankles and indigo cuffs that extend to her mid-arm and slightly below the knees.
In her Super Idol Form, she gains a second layer of ruffles on her shoes and gloves, which are dark indigo. The same ruffles are under the purple ones on her dress. Adorning the back of her waist is a light indigo bow on the back with indigo ribbon to match the dress. A indigo and white barrette partly holds back her hair.
Her idol form is very similar in appearance to Caren's idol form, which is because they are twin sisters.
Powers[]
In the anime, Noel shouts "Aiiro (Indigo) Pearl Voice" to transform.
In her idol form, like Lucia and the others, Noel can use her singing voice to get rid of enemies. Noel's voice matches her personality: calm and soft. She is not shown to have her own song in the manga or anime, but instead she is usually seen singing along side Coco and Caren.

- Most people – especially translators – mistake Noel’s name as being “Noelle”, which is the female variant of the name, but "Noel" has also been used for females.
- Her name has also been mispronounced/misspelled as Nuil.
Trivia[]
- Along with Coco, Noel is the only Mermaid Princess that doesn't have an image song, but many like to believe that 'Tsubasa', sung by her seiyuu (Ryoko Nagata) is Noel's image song.
- All Arctic Mermaids – Noel included – are born on a Thursday. Noel is older than Caren by the minute separating Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14 – the years in which these two days are on Thursday and Friday respectively are 1975, 1986, and 1992. The first year is too early, and the last year is too late, so it is obvious the shared birth year for the sisters is 1986. That having been said, since the series starts in 2003, this means the translation is incorrect in the manga where Caren states in her monologue that she (and thus Noel) are eighteen; as such, when we see Caren for the first time, she and Noel are around seventeen and a half years old.
- Noel doesn't have an episode centered around her like Coco and Caren do.
- Coco had a major role in Episode 12 of Pure while Caren has made multiple appearances in the original series.
- Noel, just like Rina, Coco and Seira, never sang a full solo version of Legend of Mermaid in the anime.
- Noel is the only Arctic Ocean mermaid seen in the series.
- Noel, along with Coco and Caren (the latter only in the manga), are the only mermaids to have been a prisoner of Gaito.
- Noel and Caren have many similar features due to them being twins, albeit these are mirrored.
- Caren has a mole under her left eye and her bangs tend to part to her left, while Noel has a mole under her right eye and her bangs tend to part to the right. They also have very similar idol forms.
- Noel is inspired the character of Lind from Ah! My Goddess.
- Noel's favorite color is Indigo also known the color as Blue.
